SAQ¨ at Felmore Primary School
Over a hundred pupils from Year 3 & 4 at
Felmore Primary School, Essex have been receiving specialist in-house training in
SAQ¨ Speed Agility Quickness following funding by their PDM, Steve Radford.
The mini-project highlighted the needs to
educate a child as a 'good mover' before engaging their development in sports specific
skills. Their programme is part of a pilot project based for all schools in
Essex's School Sports Partnerships to undertake use SAQ¨
Feedback from both Staff and Pupils informed
the project that:
100% of all Staff loved and recognised how brilliant the SAQ¨ Continuum
is.
100% of Staff expressed a wish to definitely implement SAQ¨ as part of
their PE curriculum.
100% of all Staff enjoyed the SAQ¨ experience and stated how amazed they
were with the improvement shown within such a short period of time. Also how
engaged their pupils were at all times , especially their 'non PE minded'
pupils.
One Teacher of Year 4 students even
said that it was the best PE Training Programme she had seen in 35 years of
teaching:
On a recent 'wet play' lunchtime, pupils asked for
more SAQ¨ Sessions. A session was easily arranged in the school's 'Eden
Project' style dome, a space usually used for story reading or intervention
work. Once again this proved that with SAQ¨ quality education and activities
can be conducted at any time and in any environment!!
